Guess Who’s Back, Back Again

pic6 I’VE HAD A BLUE 4 WEDNESDAYS WITHOUT YOU…I’ve been so blue thinking about you. Did I just remix Blue Christmas because that’s how much I’ve missed you guys? Yeah, I did. & there’s not one bone in my body that regrets it.

To my dismay, this little thing called “college” or “finals” and ya know, the occasional “creative drought” has swept this Well Dressed Dreamer away from the World Wide Web.

The term “creative drought” is a Carrsan-ism (did I really just trademark my own thoughts? It’s 2016…why not?) is referred to as a pre/post finals slight mental breakdown. This usually occurs when I feel like I have a zillion things to do and I won’t get them done to the ability that I would like. Unfortunately, I am a bit of a perfectionist, which means seemingly normal tasks take me obnoxious amounts of time to complete.

As this escapade in my mind takes place, a little thing called comparison intervenes with my thought process. What I mean by this can be explained via the quote “Comparison is the thief of all joy” – Theodore Roosevelt. (If you haven’t come across this one while you were typing inspirational quotes into the search bar on Pinterest, you’re lying. & if you say you don’t have a secret board on Pinterest storing all of these quotes for a rainy day, you are also lying.)

Thus, this internal mind game of side by side judgement of myself to other human beings results as me doubting my abilities. Gaah, is it just me or does everyone go through some similar funk?

But, in the midst of this chaos, I have recently had the revelation that when you stop creating, you stop living. In the end, you’re only hindering yourself and your happiness. & 9 times out of 10, you’re often the only person holding you back.

We aren’t put on this Earth to just sit back and exist, folks. We’ve been given the breath in our lungs by the Big Man Upstairs; who gave each and every one of us extraordinary gifts that were bestowed upon us so that we could cultivate our place in this world. Whether that be having a niche in writing, or painting, or heck, even being able to build the Ritz-Carlton of all birdhouses — that’s what makes us, us.

We’re all constructed perfectly in His image. Yes, that includes all of our quirks and that second toe that’s a whole heck of a lot longer than the first. Perfect? I know. Coming from the perfectionist herself, it’s hard for me to wrap my mind around. But, that’s the beauty of it.

So, for the rest of our time being here on this rotating circle of life — why not try to build the best dang birdhouses we can. pic2 pic8

Oh, & I like to call this look “Momma Jan from the late 80s with a modern twist”.
